From Bach to Broadway, The Hogtown Brass Quintet brings energy, humour, and skill to a show guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

The Hogtown Brass Quintet is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the traditional brass ensemble. Formed in 2013, HBQ is a collaboration among five accomplished and diverse musicians from a variety of musical backgrounds, ranging from classical to pop to jazz. In June 2017, HBQ was a featured performer at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. Their debut recording, ‘Introducing…’, featuring brand new arrangements and original compositions for brass quintet in a variety of styles and genres, was nominated for a 2017 Toronto Independent Music Award.

This show will feature the premiere of a new work by award-winning Markham jazz composer, Robert Lee.

This concert is supported by the Town of Richmond Hill Community and Cultural Grant.

Immerse yourself in the sounds of the cinema as pianists Victor Cheng and Kevin Lau perform the music from classic blockbusters such as Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Superman, as well as music from a galaxy far, far away! These masterful, creative, yet faithful arrangements by Kevin Lau, one of Canada’s leading young composers, will make you feel like you are reliving those moments of pure movie magic.

York Region pianist, organist, and conductor, Victor Cheng has already established himself as a multifaceted musician. As a pianist, Victor has worked with esteemed organizations such as the National Ballet of Canada, the Glenn Gould School, Toronto Concert Orchestra, and the Bach’s Children’s Chorus. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto.

Described as a ‘self-assured voice’ (Barczablog) Kevin Lau has established himself as one of Canada’s leading young composers. Kevin’s music has been performed by major ensembles including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He recently composed the score for the National Ballet of Canada’s original full-length ballet Le Petit Prince (which premiered in June 2016).
